Currently Available Manual Train Service
WhisperLiner Passenger Train Service
WhisperLiner passenger trains provide 120-mph travel between stations.
Passengers ride in first class seats arranged on either side of a wide
center aisle in coaches that carry up to 13 passengers each. Airliner style
restrooms are provided in each coach. Luggage is stowed in racks in the
same coach as the passengers. Because trains are much smaller than
conventional trains, it is practical to launch trains are frequent intervals
to minimize waiting time. The same small train feature also makes it
practical to start train runs from intermediate stations along line and
terminate runs at such stations, thus eliminating requirements for
longer-distance trains to stop at intermediate station, thereby providing
fast, direct, non-stop service between most points in a system. Such
non-stop service tends to make average trip speed the full 120-mph speed.
CargoLiner Train Service
CargoLiner trains provide 120-mph, non-stop cargo transport between
cargo terminals. Cargo is transported in small forklift transportable,
forklift loaded closed containers. Full-size containers can hold up to three
tons of cargo. Half-size containers can hold up to 1.5 tons of cargo. Both
containers are flatbed trucks. The half-size container length is within the
8-ft, 4-inch width limit for trucks allowing theses containers to be carried
sideways on trucks.
Transport speeds with CargoLiners is higher than for over the road
trucks. Trucks handle the containers for local pickup and delivery.
Future Automated Transport
Faster Trip Times than Hi-speed Train Travel or Short Haul Airliners
Future automated MegaLiners travel non-stop from origin terminal to destination
terminal at full 120-mph speed. Because they do not stop at terminals
along the route for other passengers, the average speed approaches
120-mph. By comparison, a 150-mph train that must stop at intermediate
stations and slow down in cities to reduce noise may offer an average
trip speed on the order of only 75-mph. Consequently, 120-mph MegaLiners
offer faster travel time.
Because MegaLiners start and end trips at stations inside cities
rather than at typically distant airports, passengers save significant
amounts of time at both ends of the trip in comparison to airliner
travel. Hence, MegaLiner trips can beat short haul airliner trips.
Faster Cargo Shipment than Trucks and Even Air Cargo
Future automated cargo moves at 120-mph without stops from origin terminal to
destination terminal on a 24-hour per day basis. The smaller (3-ton)
capacity container can also be directly routed to the cargo destination,
thus avoiding lost time in unloading and reloading trucks at cargo
terminals.
The same half-size containers holding up to 1.5 tons of cargo carried aboard
CargoLiners can also be carried on the automated carriers. Two such
containers are loaded on the carriers in tandem.
Fast Inter-city Automobile Travel
Future automated car ferries transport ordinary automobiles with
drivers and passengers non-stop at 120-mph from entry ramp to exit ramp.
Car occupants arrive at ramps near their ultimate destinations in
destination cities in their cars rested and ready to drive short
distances to complete their trips. Total travel time is less than
half of interstate highway travel.
